Iqbal’s Vision of the Reconstruction of Religious Thoughts in Islam

at University of Sarajevo, Bosnia Herzegovina  29 November 2016

The Iqbal International Institute for Research and Dialogue (IRD), IIU and University of Sarajevo, Bosnia Herzegovina jointly organized one day international conference “Iqbal’s Vision of the Reconstruction of Religious Thoughts in Islam” at University of Sarajevo, Bosnia Herzegovina. The IRD organized a number of activities in Sarajevo.

It was held in the central auditorium of Sarajevo University which was attended by the Chief Organizer and President IIUI, Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh, Executive Director, IRD, IIUI, Dr. Husnul Amin, Dr. Susic Sejo, IIUI, Advisor to IIUI President, Dr. Ashraf Abdul Rafay, Dean of Sarajevo university and other high officials of the university, Head of King Fahad Cultural Centre, Bosnia, Dr. Muhammad Bin Hassan Al e Shiekh, renowned Bosnian scholars and faculty members of Sarajevo university.

Allama Iqbal was not only a Philosopher and poet but he was a great visionary who anticipated and predicted the challenges of Muslim Ummah which have become real now. It is need of the hour that Muslim youth should be introduced to the thoughts of Allama Iqbal so they could address the prevailing challenges

The participants of the conference opined that Allama Iqbal was a Philosopher who rightly diagnosed the Muslim world’s problems and addressed those through his thoughts and poetry in light of Islamic teachings. They termed Iqbal as true lover of Quran and said he took guidance from the life of Holy Prophet (PBUH). They maintained that Muslim youth must be introduced to the thoughts of Allama Iqbal so they could address the prevailing challenges.

Iqbal’s was a great scholar and philosopher. His thoughts are a rich source to deal with the contemporary challenges such as terrorism, misinterpretations of Islam and lack of Muslim prosperity,  Professor Dr. Ahmad Al-Draiweesh President IIUI.

In his presidential address Professor Dr. Ahmad Al-Draiweesh President IIUI thanked the Sarajevo University especially its faculty and management of Islamic studies for cooperation in organizing the moot. He said that Iqbal was a scholar and philosopher who stressed upon Muslim unity. He said that Iqbal’s thoughts are a rich to deal with contemporary challenges such as terrorism, misinterpretations of Islam and lack of Muslim prosperity. He also discussed Iqbal’s narrations and various times and aspects of his life.

 Meeting with Bosnian Grand Mufti  – Mututal cooperation in FATWA Studies

The Grand Mufti of Bosnia termed IIUI’s Fatwa Institute as a vital source of exposure for the Muslim students and he desired that Bosnian students be given special priority for acquiring education there.

Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh, President, International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) met with Chairman Ulema Council and Grand Mufti of Bosnia at his office. During the meeting, cooperation in the field of Fatwa was discussed and agreed. The council and the university will work for exchange of experiences in the field of Fatwa. The Grand Mufti said that IIUI’s Fatwa Institute was a vital source of exposure for the Muslim students and he desired that Bosnian students be given special priority for acquiring education there.

Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh, President IIUI, ensured the Grand Mufit that IIUI will continue providing its educational and scholarly services to the students of Muslim world and particularly will welcome students from Bosnia and will facilitate them in every manner. 

Dr. Al-Draiweesh said that IIUI will welcome Bosnian students to all its faculties, centers and academies. He reiterated his resolve that university will keep providing best facilities of education and experiences sharing to students of all Muslim countries on priority basis. The President’s visit was part of his efforts to expand IIUI’s educational ties globally and to introduce the university across the world.

The IRD, IIU delegation meets with the Ambassador of Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, His Highness Shaikh Hani bin Abdullah Momina  in Bosnia

The Ambassador of Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, His Highness Shaikh Hani bin Abdullah Momina termed  International Islamic University, Islamabad as a vital Institution of Muslim world.

Prof. Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh, President, International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) visited Royal Embassy of Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) in Bosnia. During the meeting, IIUI President discussed issues pertaining to mutual interests with KSA Ambassador to Bosnia, Hani bin Abdullah Momina. He appreciated the role of Saudi government and its embassies in creating unity among the Muslim states. He said Saudi embassies were providing commendable services for improvements in educational standards across the world.

He also briefed that Ambassador about IIUI’s efforts to disseminate Islam’s message of peace and harmony. He vowed on the occasion that university will keep providing a perfect milieu for education at its campuses where they are kept informed about the Islamic teachings. The ambassador said that IIUI was a vital institution of Muslim world which has been providing a quality education to the Muslim youth.

IRD, IIU delegation called on Pakistani Charge d’ Affairs in Bosnia.

Prof. Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh, President, International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) called on Pakistan’s charge d’affaires in Bosnia.

During the meeting, issues of mutual interest and improvement in the field of education were discussed. The diplomat appreciated the role of IIUI and said that it was heading towards the right direction in the leadership of Dr. Al-Draiweesh. He also greatly applauded the IIUI for that organizing a seminar on Iqbal’s message and thoughts in Bosnia which he said was also attended by Pakistani officials of the embassy.

President IIUI thanked the Pakistani Embassy in Bosnia for cooperation in organizing seminar on Allama Iqbal, while he also apprised the charge d’affaires about the university’s collaborations with other universities globally and its future plans. He also thanked Pakistani and Saudi Arabian governments for cooperation and encouragement of IIUI.

IRD, IIU delegation called on Muslim Unity  Envoy in Bosnia

Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh, President, International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) visited King Fahad Cultural Centre, Bosnia.

The President of IIUI,  Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh, Ahmad visit was part of his efforts to expand IIUI’s educational ties globally and to introduce the university across the world.

Dr. Al-Draiweesh met with Muhammad Bin Hassan Al e Sheikh, Head of the Centre and discussed with himissues pertaining to expanding mutual cooperation. He was also accompanied by Dr. Husn ul Amin, Executive Director, Iqbal International Institute for Research and Dialogue (IRD) of the university and Dr. Susic Sejo, a senior faculty member at varsity’s Shariah and Law faculty.

During the meeting, President IIUI stressed upon Muslim unity and said that mutual cooperation among the Muslim societies was imperative. He also apprised Mr. Hassan about the goals and objectives of the university.

Mr. Hassan told Dr. Al-Draiweesh that center was working for the dissemination of Islam’s message of peace which is a common feature of both King Fahad Centre of Bosnia and IIUI. He also hailed the services of IIUI for nurturing Muslim youth in the light of Islamic teachings.

IRD, IIU delegation visited Mostar University in Bosnia

Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh, President, International Islamic University, Islamabad visited Mostar university in Bosnia and met with its leadership. He was briefed about the university by its Head of faculty of Law and discussed mutual cooperation with varsity’s top officials and called for united efforts for the cause of spreading Islam’s true message of peace.

He also apprised about IIUI’s faculties, institutes and activities and said that university was eager to expand its bilateral education ties with all the universities of world. The President IIUI’s visit was part of his efforts to expand IIUI’s educational ties globally and to introduce the university across the world.
