Development & Academic and Cultural Impact 25 March 2016
The Iqbal International Institute for Research & Dialogue, (IRD) organized a seminar on “IIU, Its History, Development, Academic & Cultural Impact” on 25 March 2016 which was chaired by Mr. Justice (R) Khalil ur Rehman, former Rector, IIU.
Mr. Justice (R) Khalil ur Rehman presented a brief note about the establishment of International Islamic University, Islamabad by the resolution of OIC. He added that during decades the IIU won a respectable place in the Muslim world. He told that a magnificent convocation was held in which some legendary personalities of the international repute like Dr. Mahathir Mohammad, ex premier of Malaysia, Nelson Mandela a legend of Africa and Prince Hassan Bin Talal of Jordan were been conferred upon honorary degrees. Two roundtables panel discussions were also organized, one with Dr. Mahathir Mohammad and the other with Prince Hassan bin Tallal in which leading intelligentsia, and business personalities were present. He also admired the services of Mr. Abdul Malik Yousuf al Hamr of United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Yousuf Jasim al-Hijji of Kuwait, Dr. Abdullah Omer Nasseef, Dr. Muhammad Ahmad Ali, Chairman, IDB, Jeddah and Dr. Abado Yamani of Saudi Arabia for raising necessary funds.
Dr. Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh, President, IIU welcomed the audience and expressed his gratitude to Former Rector, IIU for coming from Lahore to share his experience with the participants. He also thanked IRD for arranging a wonderful evening with the intellectuals of Metropolis. A large number of foreign faculty members participated in the discussion. The President, IIU thanked the participants for sparing time and attend the seminar.
